BBC \u2014 Health authorities have heightened surveillance and testing capacity across St Vincent and the Grenadines as the neighbouring Caribbean Community country of Trinidad and Tobago recorded its fourth case of the monkeypox (M-pox) virus.<\/span><\/p>

Port of Spain said that the latest case is that of a young adult male and that the relevant County Medical Officer of Health is currently conducting an epidemiological investigation.<\/p>\n

The country has initiated the public health response, which includes home isolation and contact tracing.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment in St Vincent and the Grenadines said Friday that as a result, it has heightened its surveillance and testing capacity across the country with regards to M-pox\u201d.<\/p>

Monkeypox is a viral zoonosis \u2013 a virus transmitted to humans from animals \u2013 with symptoms similar to those seen in the past in smallpox patients, although it is clinically less severe.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

For some persons, the first symptom of m-pox is a rash or mucosal lesions which can last two to four weeks, while others may have skin rash accompanied by fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe public is, therefore, advised to continue observing a healthy lifestyle which reduces exposure to viral infections, including frequent hand washing, minimising contact with person\/crowds and seeking care immediately on suspicion of exposure,\u201d the ministry advised, adding that routine surveillance for other infectious diseases continues to be conducted and is coupled with frequent awareness sessions for healthcare staff and the public.<\/p>

\u201cThe ministry will continue to monitor the situation closely and update the public accordingly. To date, St Vincent and the Grenadines has recorded no confirmed case\/s of M-pox,\u201d the ministry said.<\/p>\n
