The Cabinet says it will immediately begin the importation of sand from Guyana, on a permanent basis, to satisfy the demand for building materials.<\/p>

Since the importers are private industry firms, the charges which they will pay at the border will be the same as if the import were another export from any CARICOM state, according to Chief of Staff Lionel Max Hurst.<\/p>\n

The Cabinet said that it will abide by its treaty obligations, but there cannot be any special treatment equal to those which would be afforded domestic sand production from Barbuda.<\/p>
