The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) is putting a system in place to better collect property taxes.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Officials and a computer engineer made a presentation to the Cabinet showing how the collection of property taxes can be improved.<\/p>\n

The actual amount owed in property taxes is not known but the government says the top 100 properties owe the IRD more than EC$19,000,000 (nineteen million dollars) in outstanding taxes.<\/p>

According to the government, the new program that the IRD is putting to work will tie the Land Folio, Survey Mapping, Land Registry, Property Valuation and Property Tax in a single, integrated system that will enable the annual property tax to be determined and communicated to the property owner.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Tax accounts will be created for all parcels of land throughout Antigua. The new system will also record when payments are made to the IRD; and, it will also show when payments are not made within a timeframe permitted under the law.<\/p>\n

A new Tax Administration Law will have its first reading in Parliament before the end of July 2018, making lawful the computerized system. The new law will also repeat the tax sales capabilities which delinquent taxpayers can face.<\/p>
