The hunger strike of five Aindividuals from Cameroon, who have been detained in the British Virgin Islands for over a month, continues into its third day.<\/p>

John Benson says they have taken this extreme measure to pressure the British Virgin Islands (BVI) authorities into allowing them to proceed to the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) and seek assistance from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).<\/p>

Having fled the perils of their homeland, the detainees had hoped to find refuge in Saint Thomas, USVI, but were intercepted during their journey.<\/p>

For weeks, they have pleaded with the BVI government to grant them access to communication devices, enabling them to reconnect with their families and loved ones.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, they have repeatedly requested a dialogue with the UNHCR to address their urgent need for asylum.<\/p>

Regrettably, their appeals for assistance have fallen on deaf ears, with the BVI government.<\/p>\n

The African American community, dedicated to fighting for equality and human rights for Africans globally, stands united in their support of the detainees. Spearheaded by President John Benson of the African American movement, they vow to bring international attention to this humanitarian crisis by presenting the irrefutable evidence to relevant authorities and media organizations.<\/p>

As the hunger strike enters its third day, the detainees are resolute in their determination to speak directly with the UNHCR.
