Perry\u2019s acquisition follows news that Paramount Global had been seeking to sell a majority stake in BET.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, the American actor and filmmaker expressed optimism about buying the company, saying that if it was possible, he was \u201cvery, very interested.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been there for four years now and had tremendous success,\u201d said Perry to Entertainment Online.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t expecting this to happen, so, yes \u2013 if that is possible, I\u2019m very, very interested in taking as much of it\u2026 If it\u2019s possible, I\u2019m gonna take as much of it as I can.\u201d<\/p>\n

Perry\u2019s deal is valued at an as-of-yet undisclosed amount and will give him control over BET Media Group, which also comprised networks like VH1.<\/p>

Perry is no stranger to working with BET.<\/p>\n

The star partnered with the company via his Tyler Perry Studios banner to create BET+, a streaming service that features both original films and series from the BET program library.<\/p>

Since its launch, the streaming service has been massive. In 2021, BET+ accounted for half of the subscriber growth and nearly all revenue growth for the channel.<\/p>
