The University of Health Sciences Antigua (UHSA) has not communicated to staff about the monies owed to them since news of the school’s financial troubles became public one week ago.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The staff members, who spoke to us on the usual condition of anonymity, said the owners and managers of the medical school have said nothing to them.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Meanwhile, they say their financial troubles are getting worse with no way to pay back monies borrowed to survive while they awaited payment from UHSA.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The monies owed in salaries and other expenses\u00a0date back several months.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“If a storm comes our way, what are we, the broke employees of UHSA supposed to do, to be hurricane ready?” one worker asked.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Workers with rent, mortgage, car payments, APUA, and other responsibilities, what are they supposed to do?” the UHSA\u00a0employee added.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Meanwhile, at least one employee through her lawyer has sent a letter of complaint to the Labour Department.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The principals of the school have not responded to media questions about the status of payments and the future of the school.<\/div>\n
