On Friday 9th<\/sup>\u00a0June 2023 the National Youth Parliament Association of Antigua and Barbuda (NYPAAB) will host its annual youth parliament debate.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The debate, which will commence at 9:00 a.m. at the Parliament of Antigua and Barbuda, will consist of youth, current and former parliamentarians.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

To include Ezekiel Francois, Esquire Henry, Christal Percival, Minister Samantha Marshall, Celine Edwards, Aziza Lake, Shaquan O\u2019Neil, Chrysean Jarvis, Senator Shawn Nicholas, Zachary Phillips, Jahmaal Frederick, Marver Woodley and Jonathan Wehner.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

There will be three legislative items on the agenda: Rural Housing for Youth Bill, 2023, a Resolution of the House of Assembly, Approving the Decision of the General Assembly to Call for Action to Rehabilitate and Develop At-Risk Youth and a Resolution of the House of Assembly, Approving the Decision of the General Assembly to Stand in Intergenerational Solidarity with Young People.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The debate will address the recent rise in youth and gang-related violence that has become a source of public concern\u00a0while\u00a0making\u00a0a clarion call for all relevant stakeholders to collaborate on the creation of innovative strategies targeted at quelling youth violence.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

It will also\u00a0praise\u00a0the efforts of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and the Ministry of Social Transformation for pushing for the transformation of the juvenile justice system through the Juvenile Justice Reform Project (JJRP)\u00a0while emphasizing\u00a0that priority must be given to the completion of facilities such as the Boy\u2019s Training School, which are necessary for restorative justice for young people, among other things.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the debate will address the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals, approved by the United\u00a0Nations\u00a0General Assembly in September 2015.<\/p>

The NYPAAB\u00a0believes that the youth agenda should be pushed by young people but should also emphasize the need for youth to lean on the advice,\u00a0wisdom\u00a0and\u00a0experience\u00a0of previous generations.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u00a0Thus, the debate will affirm\u00a0the need for all generations to actively engage in youth development as a tool to ensure sustainable development\u00a0while\u00a0imploring\u00a0public and private agencies to create avenues for the holistic involvement of young people in all areas of business, academia, politics, religion and the like.<\/p>\n
