In the wake of torrential downpours lashing Haiti, the death toll has surpassed 50, with heavy rain persisting relentlessly.<\/p>

As the nation has experienced a deluge of rainfall since last weekend, the situation remains dire. Authorities have reported 15 individuals missing, further compounding the tragedy.<\/p>\n

Jerry Chandler, the Head of Haiti’s Civil Protection Office (DPC), revealed that the impact has been severe, with 12,779 families affected and an estimated 13,633 houses flooded across multiple regions.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The West region, including the metropolitan area, has been hit the hardest, alongside other ecologically vulnerable areas like the North West, Nippes, and the South-East.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

As reports anticipate the numbers to rise, the rains have already caused injuries to at least 85 people.<\/p>\n

In response, Prime Minister Dr. Arield Henry is urgently seeking international assistance to address the pressing needs of the population.<\/p>

The relentless downpour has led to overflowing rivers, triggering floods and landslides in various locations, affecting numerous individuals.<\/p>\n

Driven by the urgency of the situation, the Haitian government is actively engaging with national and international institutions to swiftly respond to the crisis.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Assessment of the damages is currently underway, guiding the government’s decisions on emergency response measures.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Shelter, food, and sanitation facilities are being swiftly deployed with the aid of UN organizations and dedicated civil protection volunteers.<\/p>\n

Acting Humanitarian Coordinator for Haiti, Jean-Martin Bauer, emphasized the collaborative efforts between the humanitarian community and national institutions to aid those affected.<\/p>\n

Bauer expressed deep concern, particularly considering the existing vulnerabilities of the Haitian population.<\/p>\n

He stressed the need for greater financial support, as the current humanitarian response plan remains significantly underfunded, with only 20 percent of the required budget secured.<\/p>\n

Bauer called upon all donors to stand in solidarity with the Haitian people, ensuring critical financing for the response to the floods and preparation for future adverse weather events.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the World Food Programme (WFP), affected residents have begun receiving essential assistance in the form of hot meals and ready-to-eat rations.<\/p>\n

However, much more support is urgently needed to address the escalating crisis and provide relief to the affected population.<\/p>\n
