Antigua and Barbuda – Hon. Samantha Marshall, the Minister of State for the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Social Transformation, and Environment, has issued a heartfelt statement to citizens, residents, and visitors as the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season commences.<\/p>

Emphasizing the importance of preparedness, the Minister highlighted the profound impact even a single tropical cyclone can have on the lives and livelihoods of countless individuals.<\/p>\n

Underlining the vulnerability of the twin-island nation, Minister Marshall pointed to past experiences, such as the devastation caused by Hurricane Luis in 1995 and the decimation of Barbuda by Hurricane Irma in 2017.<\/p>

Despite the nation’s resilience and the subsequent recovery efforts, it is imperative that preparedness remains a priority for all citizens in the face of natural disasters.<\/p>

Minister Marshall acknowledged the recent flooding in November 2020, which caught many off guard and resulted in significant damage to infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The Minister drew attention to predictions indicating an above-normal hurricane season for 2023.<\/p>\n
