Attorney Leon Chaku Symister urged more residents to join the ongoing picketing of Government House, which entered its second consecutive day on Wednesday, May 31.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The protest action was initiated by the Concerned Citizens group on Tuesday, following the Governor-General’s receipt of a series of opinions regarding his powers to convene a commission of inquiry.<\/p>\n

While Sir Rodney Williams had left the country on Monday, May 29, possibly to avoid what he reportedly labeled as the “nonsense” of the United Progressive Party, Symister remained resolute that the protest would continue until Friday, June 2.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Beyond that, a decision would be made on the next course of action.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Symister emphasized that one of the legal opinions received by Sir Rodney had reminded him of the repercussions of opposing the Cabinet.<\/p>\n

As the King’s Counsel, Symister reminded the head of state that his appointment had been made by the Monarch based on the prime minister’s recommendation, and he could also be dismissed on the advice of the PM.<\/p>

Additionally, Symister highlighted that the governor-general had been provided with incorrect information upon which he based his opinion, according to one of the King’s Counsel responses.<\/p>\n

Specifically, a legal expert mentioned a date in March 2023 when hundreds of West Africans arrived and granted them the status of “refugees.”<\/p>

On May 17, Leader of the Opposition Jamale Pringle led a group that met with Sir Rodney, presenting a letter requesting a public inquiry into the origins of Antigua Airways and the situation involving the hundreds of stranded West Africans.<\/p>

The request was accompanied by a petition containing over 8,500 signatures in support of the inquiry.<\/p>\n
