Antigua & Barbuda Cancer Support Community (ABCSC) 2nd\u00a0 anniversary and cancer survivors’ month of activities – June 3rd – 24th, 2023<\/strong><\/p>

The Antigua and Barbuda Cancer Support Community (ABCSC) was\u00a0established in June 2020 but was officially launched in June 2021. It is an arm of the Community Charitable Ministry (CCM), a non-profit organization established in December 2008.<\/p>\n

The ABCSC was founded by Emelda Benjamin a director of CCM, Registered Nurse, Certified Midwife, and a breast cancer survivor. Her experience going through cancer treatment and observing the gap in support for survivors of cancer are what led to the formation of the group.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

‘No One Fights Alone’ is the motto of ABCSC. The main aim of the support group is to provide holistic support to people living after a diagnosis of all types of cancers.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Over the three years since its inception, the ABCSC has provided financial and psychosocial support for many cancer survivors both members and non-members, and their families.<\/p>\n

The support group has a membership of forty (40) representing Breast, Head & Neck, Colon, Cervical, Multiple Myeloma, Skin, and Lymphoma cancers, along with five (5) supporters.<\/p>

This year, in celebration of our 2nd anniversary since being launched and in observance of Cancer Survivors Day and month (June), we will observe activities in collaboration with the Leo Club to include: a Panel Discussion at the Villa Poly Clinic on the 3rd of June 6 pm, a Glow Walk in support of cancer survivors on June 11th starting at 6 pm.<\/p>\n

Other activities in June include a Worship & Thanksgiving Service at the Living Hope Christian Union Church on Wireless Road at 9:30 am on the 4th, a Celebration Brunch, and the distribution of gifts to cancer survivors.<\/p>

Psychosocial support for people diagnosed and living with cancer is critical to their survival and quality of life, as well as the patients and\u00a0the family. This is why the ABCSC exists.<\/p>
