Hurricane Beryl lost strength on Saturday and weakened to a tropical storm with maximum-sustained winds of 65 mph as it moves toward the Caribbean. And a depression off the coast of the Carolinas is slowing down.<\/p>

In its 11 a.m. update, the\u00a0National Hurricane Center<\/a>\u00a0said Beryl was located about 720 miles east-southeast of the Lesser Antilles and still moving west-northwest at 14 mph.<\/p>\n

A tropical storm warning has been issued for Dominica, replacing the former hurricane watch. Tropical storm watches are in effect for Barbados, St. Lucia, Martinique, Guadeloupe, St. Martin, St. Barthelemy, Saba and St. Eustatius.<\/p>

Beryl continues to be a rather small storm, with tropical-storm-force winds extending out 35 miles. Additional weakening is expected during the next 48 hours.<\/p>

Forecasters said Beryl appears to have lost some of its organization from Friday afternoon, and they still believe it will dissipate after it passes Hispaniola on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeryl is expected to remain in a light vertical wind shear environment today, but an increase in westerly shear is expected on Sunday, and the shear is forecast to become quite strong as Beryl moves over the eastern Caribbean early next week,\u201d the hurricane center said. \u201cAs a result, the new NHC intensity forecast calls for little change in strength during the next 24-36 [hours], but predicts steady weakening after that time.<\/p>
