Kenworth Charles expressed remorse for his actions that led to the death of Fitzroy Robins in 2020.<\/p>

He stated that he wished he had known Robins so that he could have shown him the person he has become, implying that he was not proud of his past actions.<\/p>\n

Charles, who worked as an IT technician at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, was found guilty of killing Robins, a former soldier, in February 2022, after the two strangers met at a bar months earlier and got into an altercation over unpaid beers.<\/p>

The incident occurred when Charles took beers from a woman’s cooler without paying, and Robins, who was armed with a knife, confronted him and asked him to pay for the drinks, which he eventually did.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

However, the two strangers crossed paths again on the tragic night, and an argument ensued, which led to Charles stabbing Robins several times with a knife.<\/p>\n

During his trial, Charles’ defense argued that he was intoxicated and did not intend to kill Robins, but the jury believed that the incident was not an accident and found Charles guilty of murder.<\/p>

Since then, Charles has been awaiting sentencing, and the sentencing hearing began with a probation officer presenting a social inquiry report he had conducted.<\/p>\n

The 13-page report detailed Charles’ remorse for his actions and statements from his colleagues and community members who described him as a hard worker who went above and beyond in his job but became aggressive when he consumed alcohol.<\/p>

The probation officer concluded that Charles had no intention of hurting anyone but suffered from alcoholism, which was a sticking point during the hearing.<\/p>

Charles’ former boss at the hospital also took the stand, describing him as friendly and jovial, with about 150 hospital staff signing a petition begging the court for mercy.<\/p>\n

When it was Charles’ turn to speak, he appeared contrite, admitting that it was not his intention to murder Robins and suggesting that he had acted out of character.<\/p>\n
