The Antigua & Barbuda Social Security Board said it will instruct employers on ways to avoid a new fee that came into effect this week.<\/span><\/p>

As of July 1, errors discovered on monthly-submitted remittance forms will attract a fee of $100 per page.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cabinet had instructed the Board to scrap the new stipulation which was first announced in May saying it was being done without prior discussion and went against the government’s policy not to implement nuisance taxes on businesses.<\/span><\/p>

However, Executive Director, David Matthias told State Media the Board assured Prime Minister Gaston Browne that stakeholders will be engaged to ensure they know what is required of them to avoid the penalty.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cWe had one meeting with them, as a matter of fact, the go ahead with regards to the implementation date was with the concurrence of both the Employers\u2019 Federation and the Chamber of Commerce\u201d, he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Executive Director revealed, the Board \u201ccommitted then to an educational campaign where we would actually have our inspectors come into the varying employers to remind them what it is that they would be required to do when filling in those forms\u201d.<\/span><\/p>
