REAL NEWS: David Massiah, the general secretary of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers\u2019 Union (ABWU), is encouraging the workforce to join its annual Labour Day march, the theme of which is \u201cWorkers have absolutely no trust in this government.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Massiah says the high cost of living is just one reason why persons should join its march on Monday, May 1.<\/p>\n

What is now happening, he says, is that the disposable income of the working class is being eaten up by inflation. \u00a0However, the Browne Administration has been unable to provide any sort of financial cushion or demonstrate that it is able to arrest the problem.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Accordingly, Massiah says, the Union has no confidence that the Government can manage the economy in the manner it should.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The Union\u2019s general secretary says that workers are the ones building the economy; but while the Government continues to boast about economic growth, it cannot be felt by the working\u00a0class.<\/p>\n

Massiah says the Browne Administration seems to address issues only when they threaten its continued stewardship in office. He refers to the spate of negotiations currently taking place in the public sector; the recent protest by teachers; and the fact that nurses, too, have taken industrial action, as reported by the Minister of Health.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

No matter where they are and their current situation, Massiah says that workers in Antigua and Barbuda should not be afraid to stand up for their rights.<\/p>\n

On Monday, he says, they should have their placards ready and join, in solidarity, with the Union as it marches through the streets of St. John\u2019s.<\/p>
