The Nomad Digital Programme launched by the government in 2020 continues,<\/p>

despite a decline in applicants.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The programme was introduced in an attempt to take advantage of the COVID-19<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

pandemic, when millions were working from home in the United States, Europe<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

and Canada.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The idea was to offer the country as an alternative to working from<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

home in their native countries, but to do so from Antigua and Barbuda with its<\/p>\n

tropical climate and other attractions.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

Chief Immigration Officer, Katrina Yearwood in an update recently, stated that the<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has agreed to extend the time successful<\/p>\n

applicants are allowed to stay in the country, from two to possible three years<\/p>\n

without the need for work permits and so on.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Yearwood said the drop in applications may be related to the fact that the world<\/p>\n

has opened up, since the pandemic and so many persons are reporting to work at<\/p>\n

their jobs, rather than working from home.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Successful applicants of the NOMAD Programme receive a stamp from the<\/p>\n

Immigration Department, which allows them to work in the country, utilizing the<\/p>\n

available internet services to connect with their home offices remotely.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Antigua and Barbuda is one of at least eight Caribbean countries that is offering<\/p>\n

the programme.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

However, she said most countries have offered only a one-year<\/p>\n

stint as opposed to Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s two years.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The addition of an extra<\/p>\n

year is expected to give Antigua and Barbuda an edge over the competition.<\/p>\n
