\u2026Small craft advisory in effect goes into effect tonight for Antigua and Barbuda\u2026<\/strong><\/p>

\u2026Small craft advisory in effect goes into effect Friday for Montserrat, St. Kitts, Nevis, Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Locations to be affected:<\/strong> Mainly open waters on the Atlantic sides of the islands out to 20 nautical miles.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Timing:<\/strong> Late tonight until Sunday for Antigua and Barbuda; Friday morning until Sunday for Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands and Friday evening until Sunday for Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis .<\/p>\n

Synopsis:<\/strong> A combination of wind waves and wind swells is expected to cause hazardous seas, mainly on the Atlantic sides of the islands.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The threat level to the life, livelihood, property and infrastructure of mariners is forecast to rise to moderate to high with the potential for significant to extensive impacts.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

A small craft advisory means that wind speeds of 21 to 33 knots and or wind waves and or wind swells of 7 feet or greater are occurring or imminent.<\/p>\n

Winds over open waters:<\/strong> East-northeast at 24 to 41 km\/h (14 to 22 knots; 16 to 25 mph), with strong gusts to 63 km\/h (34 knots; 39 mph).<\/p>\n

Seas (significant wave heights):<\/strong> 1.8 to 2.7 metres (6 to 9 feet),<\/strong> occasionally or locally reaching 3.5 metres (near 12 feet).<\/p>\n

Wind waves and or wind swells<\/strong>: 1.5 to 2.4 metres or 5 to 8 feet and occasionally higher. The dominant wind-wave period is 6 to 9 seconds.<\/p>\n

Potential Impacts:<\/strong> Loss of life at sea; injuries to mariners; capsize or damage or loss of vessels and marine equipment; financial losses; disruption of fisheries and scarcity of fish products and disruption to marine transportation.<\/p>\n

Caution:<\/strong> Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels should avoid navigating in these conditions.<\/p>\n
