Two Government officials, including an architect and engineer from the Dominican Republic,\u00a0have suggested\u00a0constructing the new Holy Trinity Primary School in Barbuda at a different location.<\/p>

Hurricane Irma destroyed the buildings that were the school and the Dominican Republic agreed to build a new school to replace the destroyed buildings.<\/p>\n

Construction will last 4 months, and is scheduled to begin in time to complete the school by Christmas 2018.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The two engineers from the Dominican Republic who visited Barbuda, determined that the new school ought not to be constructed so close to the lagoon, since flooding is likely to occur during hurricanes and storms.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The government says the school buildings which the Dominican Republic seeks to construct are intended to double as a hurricane shelter, serving as many as 600 people.<\/p>\n

“A new site has been selected that is 15 feet above sea level, very close to the Sir McChesney George Secondary School,” it said.<\/p>

The Dominican Republic has reportedly spent US$1.5 million dollars on drawings, soil testing, purchasing of building supplies, and readying the materials for shipment to Barbuda. Consultations have already been held with the Barbuda Council, and a town hall meeting has been held with the Barbuda people.<\/p>\n
