INFLATION & HARDSHIPS – IMPACTING LIVES NEGATIVELY\u00a0 FOR ALL<\/strong><\/p>

At the recently concluded\u00a0Heads of Government meeting for member territories of Caricom which was held in the Bahamas, Prime Minister of Barbados Hon. Mia Mottley sounded\u00a0an alarm warning that all Caricom countries and citizens\u00a0should prepare and brace themselves for high inflation and\u00a0rising costs necessitated by continued high fuel prices and the war in Ukraine which is about to enter its second year.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

 <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

To ignore this warning and to dismiss the possible implications would be catostrophic for us all.\u00a0 It is certainly not something that we should take lightly as this could have very adverse long term\u00a0 effects for most of our already struggling economies.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

That is why I am appalled at\u00a0 the overall handling of the crisis involving the 637 West Africans who came to our country as tourists.\u00a0 Realistically, our economy, and our job market are NOT in a position\u00a0to support them as there are no job guarantees locally and many of them might eventually\u00a0become a burden on the state.\u00a0 As we well know, there are Antiguans\u00a0& Barbudans and other\u00a0Caricom nationals out of jobs and are struggling to secure jobs even now.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Keeping the West Africans here would only compound an already bad situation and\u00a0make life more difficult for all. .\u00a0 We are already witnessing that the entry of these West Africans brought some\u00a0 unsavoury habits that could be infiltrated by less than credible thugs who would want to reproduce the same conduct they practice in West Africa. here in Antigua.<\/p>

 <\/p>\n

I am appealing to the Government once more to do the right thing and repatriate\u00a0them back to West Africa.\u00a0 \u00a0 Let’s avoid\u00a0the headaches and further embarrassment\u00a0that this is likely to bring us in the future.<\/p>\n
