The 400-foot-tall Ferris wheel at Orlando, Florida\u2019s ICON Park lost power Saturday \u2014 leaving 62 riders suspended in midair at the embattled amusement destination where a teen died after plummeting off a ride earlier this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Wheel lost power Saturday night and we\u2019re working with the Orange County Fire Department to safely evacuate guests,\u201d according to a statement issued from the park.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cThe Wheel is expected to be closed for the next few days,\u201d a spokesperson for the park told The Post.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cThe technical team is conducting maintenance on the Wheel and, as per our protocols, the attraction will be reviewed by Florida state ride inspectors prior to reopening,\u201d the ICON rep added. \u201cUpdates on opening will be provided on our website and social.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to one stunned non-joy-rider, there appeared to be a fire of some sort at the base of the ride. \u201cWe look down and there were flames and sparks and smoke coming. I guess the generator blew or something,\u201d parkgoer Robin Baker\u00a0told\u00a0WESH 2<\/a>.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

First responders had to manually turn the wheel so 80 firefighters could attempt to rescue all the occupants, Orange County Fire Department public information officer Ashley Gipson told\u00a0Fox News<\/a>. The ordeal\u00a0took three hours<\/a>\u00a0and reportedly had ride passengers on the edges of their seats.<\/p>\n

The Orange County Fire Department later confirmed that none of the passengers were injured. However, videos on Twitter appeared to\u00a0support the online speculation that one of the ride\u2019s generators blew<\/a>, resulting in the wheel being stopped.<\/p>

ICON Park has been under scrutiny since a 14-year-old boy \u2014 identified as Tyre Samson \u2014\u00a0plummeted to his death<\/a>\u00a0off the facility\u2019s Free-Fall attraction in March of last year.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Disturbing footage of the incident shared on social media showed Samson plunging from the Free-Fall ride at ICON Park about halfway down its 400-foot descent.<\/p>\n

Horrified witnesses and other riders began screaming after the ride came to a rest as the tragic teen lay motionless just feet away from them. \u201cOh my God!\u201d screamed one woman. \u201cOh my God! He just fell! Oh my God!\u201d<\/p>\n

One frenzied woman could be seen in the footage asking staffers if they had secured Samson\u2019s safety harness before the ride.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you sure you checked him?\u201d she asked repeatedly.<\/p>\n

The Free-Fall opened in December 2021 and is hyped as the country\u2019s tallest\u00a0free-standing drop tower.\u00a0The ride stands 430 feet tall and can hold up to 30 people.<\/p>\n

The ride spins around a\u00a0gigantic tower\u00a0after it reaches peak level in the air. Riders are positioned forward with their faces at the ground before\u00a0dropping at 75 miles per hour.<\/p>\n

An investigation is reportedly ongoing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can\u2019t imagine the pain and anguish that his family must be going through,\u201d Orange County Sheriff John Mina said during a press conference at the time.<\/p>\n

In 2020, a worker died while performing maintenance on a different attraction at ICON Park. Jacob Kaminsky fell about 60 feet to his death,\u00a0according to the Orlando Sentinel<\/a>. He was 21 years old.<\/p>\n
