The port currently has a new cruise berth, cargo and logistics facilities, and other amenities, including offices to house Customs and Excise, as well as the Plant Protection and Immigration Unit, in order to prevent customers from traveling to the capital and returning.<\/p>

Speaking at the reopening ceremony, Port Authority Executive Director Darwin Telemaque said that it was a \u201cmomentous journey\u201d towards completion of the port, adding that it had \u201call the ingredients for an excellent future.\u201d<\/p>

The twin islands in the heart of the Caribbean Sea received 125,000 international visitors on cruise ships in 2020 and 300,990 passengers last year, with revenues of more than 300 million dollars.<\/p>\n

Tourist activity, the main engine of its economy, was severely hit by the restrictions associated with the Covid-19 pandemic, including the closure of borders.<\/p>
