The soap star passed away Monday night, according to her close pal, Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer.<\/p>\n

Spencer took to\u00a0Instagram<\/a>\u00a0to share the sad news, penning a heartfelt tribute beneath a photo of Eddy, which read: \u201cThe world lost another creative angel.<\/p>

Her legions of \u2018General Hospital\u2019 fans will miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, friends, and fans.\u201d<\/p>

No cause of death was disclosed.<\/p>\n

Eddy \u2014 a licensed vocational nurse \u2014 had been acting since the mid-1990s, making her debut on \u201cThe Drew Carey Show\u201d back in 1995.<\/p>

She became a familiar face on small screens in the ensuing years, with minor roles on \u201cSeinfeld,\u201d \u201cHome Improvement\u201d and \u201cThe Middle.\u201d<\/p>\n

The star also scored bit parts in a variety of big-budget movies, including \u201cBarbershop,\u201d \u201cDaddy Day Care,\u201d and \u201cSeven Pounds.\u201d<\/p>

However, Eddy is best known as no-nonsense nurse Epiphany Johnson in \u201cGeneral Hospital\u201d \u2014 a role she started playing back in 2006.<\/p>

The actress became a regular cast member and appeared in the program until this year, clocking up 543 episodes.<\/p>\n

Eddy was previously posted prolifically on her\u00a0Instagram account<\/a>, sharing photos with friends and stories about her work.<\/p>\n

However, she had not posted to her page since August, with her\u00a0last upload\u00a0<\/a>an advertisement for her film, \u201cFrank & Penelope.\u201d<\/p>\n

After news of her passing broke on Tuesday, fans flocked to the comments section beneath the post to share their condolences.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so saddened to learn of your passing. I loved you on GH. You embody beauty, intelligence, talent, and so much more. Prayers to your loved ones,\u201d one fan wrote.<\/p>\n
