An inaugural health fair staged in an effort to raise public health awareness and encourage healthy lifestyle among the populace was dubbed a huge success.<\/p>

The event which was held on Saturday at the Dredgers Ground in collaboration with the South Leeward Mission of Seventh Day Adventist and the Consulates of Jamaica and India brought together health associations, healthcare professionals, and community agencies to the first annual Health Fair, under the theme \u201cA healthier you\u201d.<\/p>

Stakeholders collaboration from the MESH Inc, Women Against Rape, Medical Benefits Scheme, American University of Antigua AUA, AIDS Secretariat, Ministry of Health, wellness and the Environment -National Cordination Department, Heart and stroke Foundation, Happy Teeth, Eye Mobile, MASA, Nutritionist, Pharmacist,The Compassionate Coach, L.C Doran Consulting Services, ER 24 Hrs Medical Centre and Nagico Insurance, provided services, information and resources that enhances community wellness.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The stakeholders also utilize the opportunity to sensitize participants on ways in which a healthier lifestyle can be obtained -phyically, emotionally, mentally, socially and sexually.<\/p>\n

The community\u00a0 benefited from a series of free screening and testing ranging from HPV, cholesterol, Blood Pressure, EKG, Blood Sugar, Vision and Dental, Rapid HIV and Syphilis, Counseling, Dieting, general health checks among others.<\/p>

\"\"<\/p>\n

Over 200 residents were treated to discounts and deals from various stakeholders and received 15 % vision discount cards from Eye Mobile, 10 % dental discount cards from Happy Teeth and\u00a0 20 % full medical discount cards from ER 24 hours Clinic and free sign up with Jamila Jack at MASA.<\/p>

Discussions also surround mental health, diabetes, benefits of drinking water, exercising regularly and other preventive measures and health security from air ambulance services to affordable insurance packages. Advice was also given to the community to take full advantage of the HPV vaccines currently being offered at the various clinics.<\/p>\n
