Peak hurricane season may be officially over, but a rare subtropical storm in December could be forming in the Atlantic Ocean for the first time in nearly a decade \u2014 and it already has a name lined up.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The\u00a0National Hurricane Center<\/a>\u00a0issued a special tropical weather outlook Monday as a\u00a0low-pressure system is “producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms” along\u00a0the central Atlantic Ocean. As of 8:30 p.m. ET, the system is\u00a0located about\u00a0800 miles\u00a0northeast of the northern\u00a0Leeward Islands of the Caribbean.<\/p>\n

What does this all mean? Possibly an\u00a0organized tropical depression or a\u00a0subtropical storm<\/a>, which according to the National Weather Service “typically has a large, cloud-free center of circulation, with very heavy thunderstorm activity in a band removed at least 100 miles from the center” and could also bring strong\u00a0winds.<\/p>
