The Government of Antigua & Barbuda has agreed to spend as much as US$ 149,000 to purchase\u00a0machines to deal will the influx of sargassum seaweed.<\/p>

The Cabinet decided to purchase at least two Seaweed Harvesters that will capture the weed offshore and place it in a barge for dumping on land.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Tourism will collaborate on acquiring the machines that sell for US$46,000 to $149,000, it was reported today.<\/p>

The seaweed is seasonal and flows with a current that brings tons of the unwanted ocean vegetation, with trapped fish and crustaceans, dying or dead, to Caribbean shores.<\/p>
