Every 11 minutes, a woman or girl is killed by an intimate partner or family member \u2014<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

and we know that other stresses, from the COVID-19 pandemic to economic turmoil, inevitably lead to even more physical and verbal abuse.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Women and girls also face rampant online violence, from misogynistic hate speech, to sexual harassment, image abuse and grooming by predators.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This discrimination, violence and abuse targeting half of humanity comes at a steep cost.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

It limits women\u2019s and girls\u2019 participation in all walks of life, denies their basic rights and<\/p>\n

freedoms, and blocks the equal economic recovery and sustainable growth our world needs.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

Now is the time for transformative action that ends violence against women and girls.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

This means governments designing, funding and implementing national action plans to<\/p>\n

tackle this scourge.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It means involving grassroots and civil society groups at every stage of decision-making.<\/p>\n

It means ensuring that laws are implemented and respected, so survivors see their rights<\/p>\n

to justice and support upheld.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It means supporting public campaigns that challenge patriarchal norms and reject<\/p>\n

misogyny and violence.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And as this year\u2019s theme \u2014 \u201cUNITE: Activism to End Violence Against Women and<\/p>\n

Girls\u201d \u2014 reminds us, it means standing with activists around the world who are calling for<\/p>\n

change and supporting survivors of violence. I call on governments to increase funding by 50 percent to women\u2019s rights organizations and movements by 2026.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s take a stand and raise our voices in support of women\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s proudly declare: We are all feminists.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s consign violence against women and girls to the history books.<\/p>\n
