The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is pleased to announce the appointment\u00a0of Professor <\/span>Diana J. Fox <\/span>as the new University Director of the Institute for Gender and Development Studies (IGDS). <\/span><\/p>\n

Professor Fox assumed duties remotely on October 1, 2022.<\/span><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\n

She<\/span> is <\/span>a cultural anthropologist, <\/span>decolonial <\/span>feminist scholar-activist<\/span>, <\/span>professor,<\/span> and <\/span>documentary film producer<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

H<\/span>er<\/span> work in Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago <\/span>over the last <\/span>three decades has<\/span> focuse<\/span>d<\/span> on issues of gender and sexual diversity,<\/span> gender justice, <\/span>sexual citizenship, HIV\/AIDS education,<\/span> transnational feminisms, women\u2019s social movement activism for ecological sustainability<\/span>, Indigenous women,<\/span>Maroon identities, <\/span>and the human rights of girls and women.<\/span><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

She s<\/span>erve<\/span>s<\/span> as an academic advisor for the United <\/span>Maroon<\/span> Indigenous Peoples<\/span>; <\/span>researche<\/span>s<\/span> women\u2019s <\/span>social and political <\/span>art <\/span>in<\/span> Nepal<\/span>, among other community<\/span>, regional and transnational projects<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Her research methodology <\/span>centers around <\/span>collaborative partnerships to achieve liberatory community goals<\/span> around the rights of women, girls, and gender and sexually diverse populations<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\n

Previousl<\/span>y, she was <\/span>a <\/span>Professor of Anthropology at Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts, USA, where she <\/span>taught since 2000 <\/span>and <\/span>was <\/span>Department Chair for eight<\/span>, and coordinator of the Women\u2019s, Gender, and Sexuality Program for six years. <\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Professor Fox is no stranger to The UWI community. She is the recipient of four Fulbright scholarships and completed three of those programmes at the Mona and St. Augu<\/span>stine Campuses from 2004 to 2009<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Professor <\/span>Fox serves on <\/span>many<\/span> international boards and committees including the Sexualities Working Group of the Caribbean <\/span>Studies Association (CSA), the international advisory board of the Fondes Amandes Community Reforestation Project (FACRP) in Trinidad and Tobago; <\/span><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

the board of Friends of ADWAN (Association of Dalit Women\u2019s Advancement Nepal), the Asian-African Association for Women, Gender and Sexuality, and is the Founder and Editor of the open access, online Journal of <\/span>International Women\u2019s Studies since 1999.<\/span><\/p>\n

She has also received two Wenner-Gren Anthropological Foundation grants among many grants, awards and honors, <\/span>has published <\/span>several<\/span> books and articles, and is a frequent speaker at conferences, and other public venues. <\/span><\/p>
