St. John\u2019s, Antigua & Barbuda, <\/span><\/span>November 22<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>202<\/span><\/span>2<\/span><\/span> \u2013<\/span><\/span> On Monday, November 21, 2022, The University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus (UWI FIC) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University, India (SRMU).<\/span><\/span><\/p>

The MoU was signed during a virtual signing ceremony, which was attended by officials from both universities <\/span><\/span>and <\/span><\/span>members of the diplomatic corps.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The MoU was signed by the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Campus Principal of The UWI Five Islands Campus, Professor Densil A. Williams, and the Vice-Chancellor of the Shri Ramswaroop Memorial Universi<\/span><\/span>ty, India, Professor Devendra K<\/span><\/span>umar Sharma.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

The MOU will see the institutio<\/span><\/span>ns collaborate on programmes in new and <\/span><\/span>emerging areas at the undergraduate, postgraduate, <\/span><\/span>and doctoral levels, as well as <\/span><\/span>faculty and student exchanges.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

Also, both institutions will be carrying out joint research projects in areas of local and global interest, <\/span><\/span>along with<\/span><\/span> organising<\/span><\/span> joint international conferences, seminars, workshops, and webinars.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking at<\/span><\/span> Monday\u2019s signing ceremony, <\/span><\/span>Principal of The UWI Five Isl<\/span><\/span>ands Campus, Professor Densil<\/span><\/span> Williams, noted that a partnership like this benefits both institutions.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

“We bring to the table significant value as our partners in India as well, and that is why I<\/span><\/span> a<\/span><\/span>m very confident that a university partnership like this is only going to do well for our institutio<\/span><\/span>ns.” <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He stated<\/span><\/span> that collaborations like these will be critical for <\/span><\/span>the advancement of <\/span><\/span>young institution<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span> like the Five Islands <\/span><\/span>Campus and<\/span><\/span>SRMU <\/span><\/span>which<\/span><\/span> are <\/span><\/span>on the path to finding practical and rel<\/span><\/span>evant solutions to<\/span><\/span>global problems.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

Vice-Chancellor of the Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University, India (SRMU)<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>Pr<\/span><\/span>ofessor Devendra Kumar Sharma <\/span><\/span>stated that <\/span><\/span>SRMU<\/span><\/span> is excited to collaborate with T<\/span><\/span>he UWI on areas of mutual interest such as information technology, management, and <\/span><\/span>education. <\/span><\/span><\/p>

\u201cWe<\/span><\/span> look forward to exploring the areas that are of benefit through our collaborative activities, research collaborations, joint degree programmes designing teaching materials, and other scientif<\/span><\/span>ic and technological literature.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span><\/span>collaboration<\/span><\/span> was initiated by the High Commissioner of India to Antigua and Barbuda, His Excellency Dr. K.J. Srinivasa, following his visit to the campus in 2021. In his remarks to the virtual ceremony, Dr. Sriniva<\/span><\/span>sa expressed his satisfaction with<\/span><\/span> the fruit borne from deliberations <\/span><\/span>through The<\/span><\/span> UWI and SRMU. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“<\/span><\/span>We <\/span><\/span>believe that international collaboration in science and technology is crucial when it comes to addressing pressing global challenges, and this is a great example.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

” Dr. Srinivasa thanked the honorary consul to Antigua and Barbuda, Mr. Vijay Tewani, as well as the staff of the High Commission for their work on the proposal to bring the two institutions together.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This <\/span><\/span>agreement<\/span><\/span> with SRMU is one of several <\/span><\/span>MoUs <\/span><\/span>signed<\/span><\/span> by <\/span><\/span>The UWI<\/span><\/span><\/a>Five Islands Campus <\/span><\/span>with international institutions<\/span><\/span>, including agreements with <\/span><\/span>Harvard Business School and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
