A day after a fire destroyed a three bed-room house and vehicle in New Winthropes, the Government of China has donated 25 thousand smoke detectors to the government for distributions to low income families.<\/p>

Although the smoke detectors were handed over on Monday, Prime Minister Gaston Browne promised to source them after fire killed nurse Gayan Williams and her three-year-old son Jayden Prince, last year.<\/p>\n

Browne told a handing over ceremony, that the detectors \u201cwill be one of the most significant contributions in terms of saving lives.\u201d<\/p>

He estimates that the country suffered damage to homes in excess of EC $ 8 million due to fires.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The ministries of health and social services will be responsible for distributing the devices. Health Minister Molwyn Joseph said the assessment on who should get the detectors will be done \u201cquickly.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Chinese embassy said it was moved to act on the government\u2019s request after the \u201csad news\u201d of several house fires.<\/p>

Roy Eusebe, his son Ian Eusebe, grandson Diandra\u2019e and the toddler\u2019s mother Patrice Mayers the occupants of the New Winthropes home which was destroyed on Sunday.<\/p>\n
