The\u00a0Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC\u00ae)\u00a0<\/b>will host its second annual\u00a0Ministerial Summit on Friday 11 November 2022 from 9:30 AM AST in St. George\u2019s, Grenada. The\u00a0event will also be live streamed via CXC\u00ae TV, www.cxc.org\/cxctv.<\/p>

The event will be held under the theme\u00a0Flexible Learning, Credentialing and Assessment\u00a0<\/i>and will\u00a0engage education policymakers, from across the region, in high-level dialogue. The second\u00a0Ministerial Summit will consider flexible learning and assessment in a new paradigm of educational\u00a0credentialling within the region\u2019s education system. Key emphasis of the Summit is the exploration\u00a0of CXC\u2019s new qualifications management framework and flexible learning and assessment strategies\u00a0at the secondary and post-secondary education level.<\/p>\n

The agenda includes keynote addresses and two fora on discussions surrounding topical\u00a0credentialing and curriculum policy issues, and educational transformation.\u00a0The Honourable Dickon A.T. Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada will deliver the Keynote Address.\u00a0Remarks will be delivered by Senator the Honourable David Andrew, Minister of Education, Sports\u00a0and Culture, Grenada. Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Chairman of CXC\u00ae and Dr Wayne Wesley,\u00a0Registrar and CEO, CXC\u00ae will both address the Summit on behalf of CXC\u00ae, while Mr Elvis Morain,\u00a0Permanent Secretary with Responsibility for Education, Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture,\u00a0Grenada will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the Opening Ceremony.<\/p>

The event will receive pre-recorded remarks from The Rt Hon Patricia Scotland KC, Secretary\u00a0General of The Commonwealth Secretariat. She will be followed by Dr Sanjaya Mishra, Director:\u00a0Education, of The Commonwealth of Learning, who will share insights on the topic\u00a0Flexible\u00a0<\/i>Credentialling in a Digital Age<\/i>. In the first of two Plenary sessions, Dr Eduardo Ali, Pro-Registrar and\u00a0Deputy Chief Executive Officer, CXC\u00ae and Dr Margaret Niles, Manager, Educational Research and\u00a0Innovation, CXC\u00ae will explore CXC\u2019s approach to the Learning Crisis Post-Pandemic. Secondly, Dr\u00a0Nicole Manning, Director of Operations, CXC\u00ae will speak to Digital Transformation through\u00a0Partnership for Quality Education.<\/p>

Regional Ministers of Education and Ministry officials will provide key inputs during the second\u00a0session focused on\u00a0Educational Transformation: Policy, Financial Sustainability and Practice<\/i>. In the\u00a0first forum, Dr the Honourable Fayval Williams, Minister of Education and Youth, Jamaica; Dr the\u00a0Honourable Nyan Gadsby-Dolly, Minister of Education, Trinidad and Tobago and The Honourable Kay\u00a0McConney, Minister of Education, Technological and Vocational Training, Barbados will share key\u00a0presentations related to policies for educational transformation.<\/p>\n

In the second forum, Dr Eduardo Ali and Mrs Sheree Deslandes, Director of Corporate Services will\u00a0set the stage for a discussion around the topic:\u00a0Financing Sustainable Educational Transformation\u00a0<\/i>in\u00a0the CXC\u00ae context especially in the area of technical cooperation with development partners. The\u00a0Honourable Daryll Matthew, Minister of Education, Sports and Creative Industries, Antigua andBarbuda and Dr Laurette Bristol, Programme Manager for Human Resource Development, CARICOM\u00a0Secretariat will join Senior Economists of the World Bank, Dr Diego Angel-Urdinola (Human Capital\u00a0Development) and Dr Victoria Levin (Global Education Practice) and Dr Martin Baptiste, Division\u00a0Chief, Social Sector Division, Caribbean Development Bank in sharing perspectives on the theme\u00a0Financing Sustainable Educational Transformation<\/i>.<\/p>

The Caribbean Examinations Council\u00ae (CXC\u00ae) was established in 1972 under Agreement by the Participating\u00a0Governments in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). CXC\u00ae assures the global human resource\u00a0competitiveness of the Caribbean through the provision of syllabuses of the highest quality; valid and reliable\u00a0examinations and certificates of international repute for students of all ages, abilities and interests; services to\u00a0educational institutions in the development of syllabuses, examinations and examinations\u2019 administration, in\u00a0the most cost-effective way.<\/p>\n

CXC\u00ae comprises 16 Participating Countries: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, British Virgin\u00a0Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St.\u00a0Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and Turks and Caicos Islands.<\/p>\n

The first examinations for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate\u00ae (CSEC\u00ae) were offered in 1979 in five\u00a0subjects. Subsequent to CSEC\u00ae, CXC\u00ae has introduced a comprehensive suite of qualifications to meet the\u00a0needs of the region: Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment\u2122 (CPEA\u2122), Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level\u00a0Competence\u00ae (CCSLC\u00ae), *Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ), Caribbean Advanced Proficiency\u00a0Examination\u00ae (CAPE\u00ae) and the CXC\u00ae Associate Degree (CXC\u00ae-AD).\u00a0The organisation also collaborates with countries in the Dutch Caribbean \u2013 Cura\u00e7ao, Saba, St Eustatius and St.\u00a0Maarten, as well as Suriname.<\/p>\n
