Foreign Affairs Minister Paul Chet Greene has used the Organisation of American States (OAS), General Assembly, to call out for the body for its shortcomings.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

In his inaugural statement, Greene warned against using the charter as an “instrument of punishment\u00a0without\u00a0first exploring all the possibilities and potential for aiding member states\u00a0whose internal politics create conditions of disquiet and or economic turbulence.”<\/p>\n

The foreign affairs minister said Antigua and Barbuda remained committed to the principles of democracy.<\/p>

However, he pointed out that after 70 years of existence “my delegation feels that the OAS has temporarily lost its place as an honest an unbias broker in terms of members states political stability.”<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Greene said the urgency of the need for reform of the OAS cannot be overstated.<\/p>\n

“The incoherence between that of the permanent council and that of the secretary general needs rectification through the crafting of rules and demarcation of boundaries,” he advised.<\/p>

“Inclusivity and equality among member states are principles to which we subscribe,” the minister told delegates.<\/p>\n
