A man who, without permission, went to the home of a Martin\u2019s Village woman \u2013 and then assaulted her daughter with a firearm \u2013<\/p>

has been convicted and fined for the offence.<\/p>\n

Elijah Mishkah John appeared before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh in the St. John\u2019s Magistrates\u2019 Court on one count of possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, and assault.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

John pleaded guilty to all the charges and was fined $20,000 for possession of a firearm and $10,000 for possession of ammunition.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

On the charge of assault, he was ordered to pay compensation to the victim in the amount of $10,000.<\/p>\n

The fines are to be paid by May 5,\u00a02023, or in default he will serve 18 months in prison on each count.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Reports are that on October 5, at about 9:30 a.m., he went to the home of the Martin\u2019s Village resident and assaulted her daughter with a gun.<\/p>\n

He reportedly had entered without the consent of the homeowner, which resulted in a conflict between him and the younger woman.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

During the confrontation, John reportedly assaulted the victim with a black handgun, and a report was made to the Police about the incident.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Following investigations, he was arrested and charged.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, John, of Paige Road, Ottos, was also charged by the Police for receiving.<\/p>\n

It is alleged that the gun he used in the assault \u2013 a Smith & Wesson 9 mm firearm \u2013 is the property of Leonard Mussington of Gambles.<\/p>\n

John pleaded guilty to this offence, as well; however, he was reprimanded and discharged by Chief Magistrate Walsh.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in other convictions, from the High Court, Justice Colin Williams sentenced two men to 16 months in prison for similar offences.<\/p>\n

Tevin Willock of Green Bay, who pleaded guilty to a charge of larceny, received a 16-month sentence, which amounted to the time he had served on remand. Accordingly, having served his sentence while awaiting trial, he was sent home.<\/p>\n

In the other case, Koeci Francis of Swetes Village pleaded guilty to larceny. \u00a0However, he will spend his time in prison since he had not been remanded.<\/p>\n
