The government says it fully intends to collect a tax on entertainment activities even as it awaits a proposal from promoters.<\/p>

The issue of taxes to be paid by promoters of shows and other forms of entertainment was again discussed by the Cabinet on Friday.<\/p>\n

In 2015, the promoters asked for a moratorium on the application of the lawful tax, then on the books which was granted.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The amount is a 10% levy on all ticket sales for entry into the event. T<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

“The Cabinet agreed that the period of adjustment was sufficiently long and that, in the discussion with the promoters two weeks ago, they had agreed to return with an offer shortly,” a statement said.<\/p>\n

“The Cabinet awaits the offer, but has made it clear that entertainment functions must contribute to the Inland Revenue Department revenue-raising that goes towards paying salaries, wages, providing safety and security, and for ensuring sanitary conditions exist before and after events. The shows extract a cost from the Government which the 10% levy is intended merely to cover.”<\/p>
