seeks undetermined monetary damages, was being filed in US District Court in Massachusetts and the Regional Court of Dusseldorf in Germany, Moderna said in a news release on Friday.<\/p><div href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/12\/05\/this-scientists-decades-of-mrna-research-led-to-covid-vaccines\/\">(mRNA) vaccine technology<\/a>\u00a0that enabled the unprecedented speed in developing the href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/06\/04\/chinese-scientist-filed-covid-vaccine-patent-after-contagion-emerged-report\/\">its COVID-19 patents<\/a>\u00a0to help others develop\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/06\/05\/team-biden-ready-to-hand-russia-and-china-vaccine-technology-for-free\/\">their own vaccines,<\/a>\u00a0particularly for low- and middle-income countries. But in March 2022, Moderna said it expected companies such as Pfizer and BioNTech to respect its intellectual property rights. It said it would not seek damages for any activity before March 8, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Patent litigation is not uncommon in the early stages of new technology.<\/p>\n<p>Pfizer and BioNTech are already facing multiple lawsuits from other companies that say the partnership\u2019s vaccine infringes on their patents. Pfizer\/BioNTech have said they will defend their patents vigorously.<\/p>\n<p>Germany\u2019s CureVac, for instance, also filed a lawsuit against BioNTech in Germany in July.
