Government commences National Street Lighting Project.<\/p>

St. Johns Antigua and Barbuda\u2026<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0The Government of Antigua and Barbuda is now rolling out what it calls an ambitious National Street Lighting Project that will upgrade the existing street lighting infrastructure in the twin island state.<\/p>\n

Lot 1 Nurse Geoinformatics &amp; Consulting (NGC) has been awarded the contract for the project earmarked to run for a minimum of six weeks. It will<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/div>\n

commence with new lights being installed on Sir George Walter Highway. Technical support will be provided by the Antigua Public Utility Authority (APUA) Electricity Business Unit and the Project Implementation Management Unit (PIMU) will be responsible for day-to-day oversight.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The PIMU is pleased to report that although the scheduled start of the street lighting project experienced some setbacks due to the knock-on effects of the world pandemic, all systems are now in place to get the project underway.<\/p>\n

There have been various impacts on global supplies with metal processing and manufacturing very slow to recover from the crisis but in response, the PIMU continued to plan for the project\u2019s implementation.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Minister of Works, the Honorable Lennox Weston, expresses the view that supplies and resources are now returning to normal (pre-covid) levels and envisions that the national street lighting project will be completed in the upcoming months.<\/p>\n

The Works Minister is of the opinion that the project is one of\u00a0the government\u2019s investments in a brighter Antigua and Barbuda and says that it is a critical infrastructur initiative that will contribute significantly to the nation\u2019s development at a time when Antigua and Barbuda continue to<\/p>

prioritize road safety. Once the new street lights are operational, the focus will be on maintenance and reducing the overall carbon footprint the Works Minister concluded. \u00a0–<\/strong><\/p>

Ongoing Road Work<\/strong>————————————————————————————————————————-<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda Second Road Infrastructure rehabilitation Project is still ongoing with road work underway on Valley Road North, Sir Sydney Walling Highway and Old Parham Road.<\/p>\n

There are\u00a0traffic interventions in some areas with the traffic being controlled by flag persons.<\/p>\n
