REAL NEWS- The second of two men accused of killing a Syrian restaurateur over six years ago has been sentenced for the offense.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Ian Daniels of Skerritts Pasture appeared in the High Court of Justice before Judge Ann-Marie Smith today, July 18, and was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his part in the joint criminal enterprise.<\/p>\n

The time spent on remand, awaiting trial and sentencing, has been taken into account, and he will now serve fewer than six years of his sentence.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Daniels, along with Corey Mills of Clare Hall, was charged with the murder of 38-year-old Mazem Daher.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

On April 23, 2016, the two men went to Daher\u2019s fast food restaurant on Old Parham Road to commit robbery. During the incident, Mills told the Police, he panicked and shot the restaurant owner, who succumbed to the gunshot wound.<\/p>\n

Mills pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to 21 years in prison in July 2020; his sentence will be up for review after he has served 10 years.<\/p>

At his sentencing, Justice Smith ordered that Mills not only receive counselling, but mandated that he undertake remedial classes as part of his rehabilitation.<\/p>\n

Because Daniels admitted to the lesser count of manslaughter, he received a much lighter sentence<\/p>
