A Government Minister here has been caught up in extraordinary fresh corruption allegations.<\/p>

Property tycoon Peter Singh Virdee has been accused of bribing high-ranking Caribbean politicians after secretly taped telephone calls emerged in a High Court judgment issued last week.<\/p>\n

Virdee and business associate Dieter Trutschler were taped making references to the topic of payments or gifts to government officials.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Both men deny any wrong-doing.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The allegations emerged in the High Court case, which saw Virdee and Trutschler accuse the UK\u2019s National Crime Agency of flouting the law when they were arrested by British police after an extradition request from Germany.<\/p>\n

German police suspected the pair were involved in a complex VAT fraud and tapped their phones.<\/p>

Excerpts from the transcripts of the calls came to light in a judgment issued by the court that rejected Virdee\u2019s attempt to overturn the NCA action.<\/p>\n

Virdee, 44, runs the \u00a34 billion B&S Property group in Mayfair, London. According to the Electoral Commission, his firm donated \u00a362,000 in 2011 and 2013 to the Conservative Party.<\/p>

The tycoon, who has met the Queen and Prince Philip, also runs The Virdee Foundation, a charity which helps vulnerable women and children.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The High Court judgment focused on his renewable energy company PV Energy, which employs Trutschler.<\/p>\n

It says: \u2018The German authorities intercepted telephone calls that caused them to suspect that Virdee and Trutschler may be involved in bribery and or corruption in relation to PVE in the Caribbean.\u2019<\/p>\n

Lord Justice Holroyde and Mr Justice Dingemans said the NCA believed \u2018the claimants were ready and willing to pay bribes, and had given at least one gift to a Caribbean politician\u2019.<\/p>\n

Virdee Mr Trutschler told the court that the transcripts make it clear they were refusing to involve themselves or PVE in the payment of any bribe or any other corrupt activity.<\/p>\n

The court emphasised that nothing in the judgment was a final adjudication of the precise meaning of the transcripts.<\/p>\n

In one transcript, Virdee said that the \u2018Antiguan energy minister\u2019 asked for money. To which Virdee said he had replied: \u2018What do you mean, \u201cI need two million\u201d? You can\u2019t just f****** take two million. You can\u2019t just say, \u201cI need two million because I did a lot of gravy.\u201d \u2019<\/p>\n

According to the judgment, Virdee was recorded saying of the same minister: \u2018he said to me \u201cYou promised my mum a car\u201d. I said: \u201cI have no problem in buying you a car.\u201d The judgment then quotes Virdee saying \u2018[The minister] is obnoxious. I said to him, \u201cGo f**** yourself\u2026\u201d \u2019<\/p>\n

The judgment also records that Virdee told Trutschler that \u2018the Prime Minister of St Kitts\u2019 was visiting, and he was \u2018taking him and his entourage for dinner this evening, so be ready for a big bill\u2019.<\/p>\n

Virdee, according to the judgment, continued: \u2018He said he would like a nice watch, I said, \u201cOK.\u201d I don\u2019t want to be spending more than like \u00a32,000 on a watch.\u2019 The judgment also describes a conference call between Virdee, Trutschler and the Antiguan energy minister.<\/p>\n

The judgement said: \u2018The minister said he was not greedy, and mentioned a 50-50 or three-way split. The minister said he wanted 10 per cent of the contract price, which he thought was 50 million with a 13.3 million profit.\u2019<\/p>\n

According to the transcript, Virdee\u2019s response was: \u201813.3 million. You want 10 per cent of 45 million which is 4.5 million, we are left with 8.5 million, there will be roughly three million to take care of what we need to do locally.\u2019<\/p>\n

The minister is said to have replied: \u2018That is too much, come on, give me a break Peter. I am not working for nothing and you guys walk away with everything like in Antigua.\u2019<\/p>\n

In 2017, it was revealed that Virdee had been arrested at Heathrow airport and faced possible extradition to Germany, where it was claimed he was one of the \u2018central organisers\u2019 of a VAT plot \u2013 which he denied.\u00a0(With files from The Daily Mail)<\/strong><\/p>\n
