Antigua and Barbuda\u00a0Minister of Tourism\u00a0& Investment,\u00a0The Honorable Charles Fernandez delivered the feature remarks during the launch,\u00a0held at the airport\u2019s award-winning Executive Lounge with\u00a0the airport landing strip and\u00a0the rolling\u00a0landscape\u00a0as the backdrop to the event.<\/p>\n

Bird International Airport launched specifically for couples travelling to Antigua and Barbuda during\u00a0\u2018June \u2013 The Month of Romance\u2019, ensures that romance begins for couples the minute they land in our country. This fast-track service\u00a0paired\u00a0with a well-branded outfitting is sure to get couples excited and ready for the most romantic experience of a lifetime with us here, in beautiful Antigua and Barbuda\u201d, remarked Minister Fernandez.<\/p>

Also celebrating the launch of the \u2018Love Lane\u2019 were\u00a0Chief Executive Officer\u00a0of the\u00a0Antigua and Barbuda\u00a0Airport Authority, Euletta Francis and Chief Immigration Officer, Katrina Yearwood.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis summer for us at the V.C. Bird international airport is already showing a welcoming return to normalcy\u00a0when\u00a0compared to the last two years.<\/p>

Today\u2019s event is therefore quite fortuitous as it allows us to be grateful to see our award-winning airport emerge from what seemed like insurmountable\u00a0odds,\u00a0and\u00a0gives me the opportunity to keep praising my management team and the entire airline community who have remained unwavering in their effort to keep V.C. Bird International airport as a\u00a0flagship airport of the Caribbean\u201d, said\u00a0the Airport CEO, Euletta\u00a0Francis.<\/p>\n

Chief Immigration Officer Katrina Yearwood added\u00a0that,\u00a0\u201cThe Department of Immigration is extremely enthused and excited to be a part of this partnership for the launch of Romanced Month today.\u00a0 One of the things discussed prior to the launch of this campaign was that all partners needed to have acknowledgment that tourism is everybody\u2019s business.<\/p>

And,\u00a0how immigration fits into this,\u00a0is that we are the first people you engage with conventionally before you are landed in Antigua and Barbuda.\u00a0So,\u00a0with that said,\u00a0we have to ensure that our immigration officers understand that while we are still security oriented, there is a heightened level of customer service\u00a0that\u00a0we have a responsibility\u00a0of\u00a0ensuring\u00a0we are providing to our passengers that are coming into Antigua and Barbuda.\u201d<\/p>

 <\/p>\n

Both Francis and\u00a0Yearwood\u00a0mentioned major and positive changes that would be coming to VCBIA in the near future that will ensure optimal performance of the airport and its employees.<\/p>\n

On arrival at the\u00a0\u2018Love Lane\u2019\u00a0within the immigration hall, Chairman of the ABAA, Rolston Potter, CEO of the ABAA Euletta Francis, Chief Immigration Officer, Katrina Yearwood and Shermain Jeremy, Romance Lead for the ABTA, engaged in the cutting of the ribbon,\u00a0ushering in the official opening of the Antigua and Barbuda\u00a0\u2018Love Lane\u2019\u00a0Experience.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The ABAA has also added to the couples’ experience by providing the first ten couples to register as traveling to Antigua and Barbuda to get married with complimentary access to the Executive Lounge on their departure. An\u00a0additional\u00a070 couples will be randomly selected to receive a coupon for 50% off discount also to the Executive Lounge on their departure.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Throughout June, the\u00a0romance experience at the airport will extend to the arrivals area where a floating chapel can be found cascading from the ceiling, offering couples photo opportunities which we hope they will share on their social media and help increase awareness.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

During the launch, husband and wife duo, La Twain entertained the audience with a rendition of their original song, \u201cExtraordinary Love\u201d setting the atmosphere for a celebratory toast to romance.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A total of 87 couples from the United States,\u00a0Canada and\u00a0U.K.\u00a0and\u00a0Europe have registered for the\u00a0\u2018Love Lane\u2019\u00a0service\u00a0with the campaign\u2019s first set of couples\u00a0scheduled to\u00a0arrive\u00a0on June 1, 2022.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The United Taxi Company\u00a0will be a key\u00a0partner for romance month as their fleet of drivers will be boasting\u00a0\u2018June is\u00a0Romance\u00a0Month\u2019\u00a0car flags on their vehicles throughout\u00a0the month\u00a0as they transport locals and visitors across the island.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Month of Romance continues with several activities\u00a0to include the annual destination wedding, a global romance webinar and the start of an aggressive digital and social advertising campaign, special offers\u00a0from a variety of hotels, restaurants,\u00a0spas\u00a0and other service providers specifically geared for couples in love.<\/p>\n
