Alphonso Montgomery Robinson, owner of Robinson\u2019s Service Station on the corner of All Saints Road and Independence Drive died at the age of 82 years last Saturday at approximately 4:48 pm at the Mount St John Medical Center.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Alphonso Robinson, affectionately known as \u2018Uncle Robbie\u2019, \u2018Chief\u2019 and \u2018Fruit\u2019 was married to Catherleen Winter. The couple had five children – Ann-Marie, Sharilyn, Joan, Charles and Kaye. The marriage ended in 1980 after twenty memorable years.<\/p>\n

Robinson leaves to mourn six children, also to include his first daughter Esther Robinson along with his sister Maria Robinson-Edwards.<\/p>

In 1963 an opportunity presented itself and he took over the management and operations of All Service Station<\/i><\/em>\u00a0then known as Busy Bee<\/i><\/em>. The owner at the time felt Mr. Robinson was the best person to take over the operations since he was the number one customer for the Station.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

With the support of close family and his wife, he pursued this endeavor. The station\u2019s name was changed from Busy Bee<\/i><\/em>\u00a0to Charles Robinson Service Station<\/i><\/em>, after his father. \u00a0 Five years later, as a result of turning around All Saints Service Station, Texaco offered him the management of Ottos Service Station which was Texaco\u2019s new flagship station. \u00a0After he acquired the management contract of Ottos, he left the Government Workshop and pursued the gas station business full time. \u00a0Ottos became known as Robinson\u2019s Service Station, and to this day a popular hang out spot.<\/p>\n

Robinson retired in 2007 and handed over the management to his son Charles Robinson.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cIn recent years,\u201d Charles remembered, \u201cmy Dad was not only my business partner but also my friend and confidante. I could always seek his advice and guidance, relying on his knowledge and wisdom, for that, I am blessed and eternally grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, my Dad\u2019s real legacy,\u201d he continued, \u201cis that he believed in humanity and took persons at face value and ultimately the lives of so many. Persons believe that my Dad had significant monetary wealth but his real wealth was in the lives he touched with his kindness and generosity.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Robinson also died while still being president of the Antigua Service Station Association. The Association\u2019s general secretary Maurice Percival said of the late Robinson that, \u201cit\u2019s a terrible loss. He was actually a soldier that stood up with us and our struggle to get a higher markup and our fair share of the revenues at the pump over the years as gas station owners.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cBy the time Robinson retired, he had already trained his son to fill in for him so well for him so well,\u201d Percival commended.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a continuation of the great work he started so many years ago and is a testament to the man he was.\u201d<\/p>\n

Robinson was a diesel mechanic by trade and worked several years at the government workshop. He also had many entrepreneurial enterprises before the service station namely: as an egg farmer; a self hire car business; a passenger bus business; and sewage and garbage disposal business as well.<\/p>\n

The funeral for the late Alphonso Robinson will be held at the All Saints Anglican Church on Wednesday 9 May, 2018 at 2 pm.<\/p>\n
