The Government House Restoration Initiative (GHRI) recently received a grant of US$150,000 from the Mill Reef Fund to assist in the refurbishment of the planned commercial sections of Government House to include a kitchen, delicatessen, and restaurant.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

In a letter written to the Governor General dated 17th March 2022, Chairman of the Board Jim Lewis wrote: \u201cGovernment House is a cultural and historical treasure that is worthy of saving and if restored to its full potential, it will become a vibrant tourist attraction and a source of national pride.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Lewis further expressed appreciation to Sir Rodney for the contribution that he has made to the Mill Reef Club and the nation of Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

He stated: \u201cWe also make this grant, as our expression of gratitude, esteem and affection for you and all you have done over the years for Antigua and Barbuda as Governor General and for the Mill Reef Club.\u201d<\/p>

Sir Rodney expressed his gratitude to the Chairman and members of the Mill Reef Fund for their generous and timely contribution and commended Board Executive Member Ms. Helen Yeager in particular for ensuring that the process was successfully completed.<\/p>\n

The Governor General further noted that the Mill Reef Fund has made a significant contribution to Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s national development agenda for the last 75 years.<\/p>

His Excellency Sir Rodney also took the opportunity to congratulate the Chairman, Mr. Ralph Isham and the Mill Reef Club on their seventy fifth anniversary of the Club\u2019s existence.<\/p>\n

About the Government House Restoration Initiative<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The Government House property, a national infrastructural treasure which features wooden and brick buildings with a history of over two (200) years, was identified as the first heritage project which would receive the attention of Their Excellencies, Governor General Sir Rodney Williams and Lady Williams.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Under their watchful eye, an analysis of the condition of the buildings, research into its history, the development of a master plan and a range of other support initiatives commenced in late October 2014.<\/p>\n

The project which is estimated to cost in the region of US$6 million has been making progress but is still inviting donors to become partners in making the initiative a reality.<\/p>\n

Once completed the Government House 2- acre property will become a premier element of the St. John\u2019s City Tour and will include an art gallery, museum, gift shop, delicatessen, restaurant and therapeutic garden.<\/p>\n
