Many employees who were terminated from LIAT 1974 Ltd and Caribbean Airport Services (CAS) during the COVID-19 pandemic, began receiving grocery vouchers on Friday through a partnership between the Antigua and Barbuda Workers\u2019 Union and Billy\u2019s Food Mart.<\/p>

 <\/p>\n

The initiative comes as an interim gesture of compassion as the ABWU continues to advocate for the ex-workers\u2019 severance payments. Speaking at a brief presentation exercise, ABWU President Kem Riley said that the Executive was pleased to sanction the initiative as it provided a tangible demonstration of the Union\u2019s commitment to its members.<\/p>\n

Leslie Salmon, Managing Director of the Food Brokerage Group of Companies, the parent company of Billy\u2019s Food Mart, said his business takes its responsibility as a corporate citizen seriously.<\/p>

\u201cMy company\u2019s point of view is that any opportunity we can get to assist any employee that has been affected by the pandemic, we will always do our best within our means to assist. That has always been our company\u2019s policy.\u201d Salmon asserted.<\/p>

The gift voucher carries a value of EC $200 for the purchase of food, as well as other household items, and is redeemable at Billy\u2019s Food Mart on Friars Hill Road.<\/p>\n

Former LIAT and CAS workers who registered for the initiative can collect their vouchers at the ABWU Headquarters on Lower Newgate Street between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm, Mondays \u2013 Fridays. Recipients must also present a photo identification to collect and redeem their vouchers.<\/p>
