NEWS CO<\/strong>: A young man who raped and impregnated his 11-year-old foster sister has been sentenced to just 14 months\u2019 imprisonment.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n

In 2019, when the now convicted rapist was 18, his mother brought the complainant to live with them and would leave the young girl in the care of the defendant when she left for work.<\/p>\n

The teen and the minor are said to have developed a relationship and started to have sexual intercourse up until September 2020.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/div>\n

In December that year, the victim went by her foster mother (the defendant\u2019s biological mother) where she saw the defendant and indicated to him that her stomach was hurting.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

The defendant placed his head on her stomach and said he felt something move.<\/p>\n

As a result, he told his mother what had taken place and she took him to the police station to report the matter.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

It was later revealed that the young girl was in fact pregnant.<\/p>\n

The defendant was charged with\u00a0 two counts of sexual intercourse with a female under the age of 14, an offence which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

In April 2022, the accused pleaded guilty to both counts on the indictment and yesterday Justice Colin Williams sent him to prison for one year and two months.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

In sentencing the young man, the judge began with a seven and a half year sentence which was reduced based on mitigating factors and the fact that the defendant took responsibility for his actions.<\/p>\n

The judge did not consider the girl\u2019s pregnancy as an aggravating factor because the defendant was only 18 at the time of the offence.<\/p>\n
