Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell has expressed concern about the increasing number of police officers who in recent times, have found themselves violating the law instead of law upholders and enforcers.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

According to police reports, during the first quarter of this year, several officers were charged for offenses ranging from drugs to sexually related offenses.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The latest report made earlier this week, outlined an incident involving a policeman who is now being investigated by his colleagues.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>
\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cThe matter has since been submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice and directives,\u201d said the Community Relations Department.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

Mitchell, in addressing the matter on Thursday during his first news conference since returning to office following the March 13 general election,\u00a0said he is very concerned.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think each of us should be concerned because these officers come from our own society, the persons affected are our own children and grandchildren, so each of us must be very concern,\u201d he said.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u201cThey are supposed to be upholding the laws of the land and if they are the ones breaking it that is troubling,\u201d he said while admitting that sexual and criminal activities are prevalence in every society in the region and in Grenada it\u2019s troubling that one will find some pleasure interfering with an underage child.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s quite frightening, it is something that all us should find very difficult and I know the commissioner is very concern,\u201d the Prime Minister said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u201cYou are talking about the destruction of our society and our children must be protected. We have a fundamental responsibility to recognise that we all have to protect the generations that we have brought here, we cannot be participating in destroying the same generation that we bring,\u201d he said.<\/p>
