The Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission has tweaked its 2018 carnival schedule which was released last weekend.\u00a0 The new scheduled was released\u00a0on Saturday<\/span>\u00a0at the launch of Carnival 2018 on Independence Avenue following a series of consultations which began in 2016.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\n

During a meeting that included Minister for Festivals the Hon. Daryll Matthew, members of the calypso association headed by Eugene Silcott, Soca Monarch chairperson Herbert \u2018Burga\u2019 Joseph, Calypso chairperson Dion Simmons, soca artistes Menace, Tian Winter and Claudette Peters and chaired by Festivals Commission Chairperson Maurice Merchant; the grouping addressed issues to include private fetes, the calypso and soca monarch competitions, marketing, panorama, prize monies and the format of the various competitions during carnival.<\/p>\n

\n

In the interest of providing the best possible programme for visitors and local patrons, the grouping consented to switching the days for the Caribbean Melting Pot show and the Calypso Monarch competition.\u00a0 The Caribbean Melting Pot show will now be held on Thursday 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0August and the calypso monarch competition on Friday August 3.<\/p>

The new carnival schedule will see Panorama held on a\u00a0Saturday<\/span>\u00a0and the Soca Monarch competition on a\u00a0Sunday<\/span>.<\/p>

\u201cThe meeting was very productive and cordial and it demonstrated that all the stakeholders have an interest in ensuring that the festival and its events attract the widest possible support from visitors and locals and continue to be relevant.\u00a0 We believe that the changes to the Carnival schedule this year will place our festival on a competitive footing with festivals across the region,\u201d said Minister Matthew.<\/p>\n

\n

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Festivals Commission, Maurice Merchant has announced that the Commission will commence discussions this week with stakeholders on a proposed new parade route for Carnival\u00a0Tuesday<\/span>.\u00a0 The proposed route will incorporate streets in and out of St. John\u2019s city proper.<\/p>

Antigua\u2019s Carnival will be celebrated from\u00a0July 27 to August 7<\/span>\u00a0under a theme, \u201cRevel in Greatness.\u201d<\/p>\n
