In another banner day for the National Swim Team representing at the Carifta Games in Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Ellie Shaw swam her way to the podium and a bronze medal in the 50 meter breaststroke with a time of 35.71, dropping 0.04 seconds (Girls 13-14).<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

She joins Ethan Stubbs-Green, who topped the podium in the 200 Metre Butterfly Event (Boys 13-14) with a gold finish of 2:12.27, lowering his previously set time by a whopping 37.83 seconds. Ethan finished a full 3.42 seconds ahead of the competition in a disciplined, full-stretch touch finish.<\/p>\n

These sterling competitors mark a host of impressive finals representation by the National Athletes representing at this year\u2019s Games. In the 50 Metre Breaststroke, Selah Wiltshire held her own in fifth place with a time of 36.82, lowering her entry time by a full 1.10 seconds. (Girls 50 Metre Breaststroke). Davina Barton marked a personal best in sixth place of the 100 Meter Free final, lowering her preliminary time by 0.39 seconds to finish with 1:07.48 (Girls 11-12).<\/p>

In the 100 Meter Freestyle, Ethan Stubbs-Green placed fourth with a time of 55.34, missing the podium by 0.01 seconds. He was closely followed by teammate Tivon Benjamin, who placed 5th<\/sup> in the finals with a time of 55.79, marking a significant difference in both athletes\u2019 entry times.<\/p>

Following in her teammates\u2019 footsteps of the 100 metre freestyle, Arianna John marked a fantastic drop of 1.01.97, from her entry time of 1:03.27 at the beginning of the Games (Girls 15-17).<\/p>\n

Heading into the final day of competition, these athletes have tested and proven their mettle on the international stage, with a host of personal and National Records and consistent challenges throughout their tenure in the pool.<\/p>

Stubbs-Green and Shaw\u2019s performances, at the helm of an overwhelming National Team showing, provide a severe rebuttal to those who claim swimming is not a premier sport in Antigua and Barbuda, and surely must justify an increase in support for our young athletes whose dedication and personal application have proven their weight on the podium.<\/p>\n
