On the opening day of the Carifta 2022 competition, national swimmer Ethan Stubbs-Greene powered his way to the top of the podium in the 100 metre butterfly event. This impressive showing represents a coup for Antiguan athletics, propelling the 13-14 age group contestant to a 58.22, an incredible drop from his previous time of 59.81 in the preliminaries earlier today.<\/p>

This represents a second drop from 1.01.35, set recently in his quest to attend these same games. For Ethan, attending his first Carifta, earning a place in the finals in his first event, and attaining a gold medal in the first raced final, this is the culmination of incredibly hard work and effort.<\/p>\n

The Antigua and Barbuda Swimming Federation is thrilled by Ethan\u2019s stunning achievement and send their congratulations to him and the Antiguan and Barbudan Swim Team.<\/p>

Ethan is joined in his finals achievement by Tivon Benjamin in the finals of the 13-14 age group 50 meter back, and Ellie Shaw in the 13-14 age group 200 metre breaststroke, dropping 4 seconds from her entry time.<\/p>

These young athletes have performed astonishingly on the first day of competition, shattering expectations and demonstrating the value and quality of the hard work, discipline, and applied talent over the last years of training. ABSF president Derek Marshall gushed, \u201cI am very proud of Ethan\u2019s achievement and the progress of the team thus far. The first day has produced some exciting swims for Antigua and Barbuda. The ABSF anticipated continued progress and is extremely proud of our athletes and the Swim Team\u2019s representation thus far, knowing the Herculean challenges our swimmers have had to endure to be participants of this year\u2019s Carifta Games.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ABSF would like to thank CIBC First Caribbean International Bank and the National Olympic Committee (NOC) for their generous contributions to making Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s representation at this meet possible.<\/p>
