Fifth-graders in New Jersey could be taught that puberty blockers are an acceptable way to \u2018manage\u2019 adolescence and masturbating \u2018a few times a day\u2019 is a healthy way to relieve stress.<\/p>

The new sample lesson plans, some of which are accompanied by animated videos, are part of a broader, K-12 health and sex education curriculum adopted by the New Jersey Board of Education. The plans, which were first reported by Fox News, are now being reviewed by individual school districts in the state.<\/p>\n

In one proposed lesson plan aimed at fifth graders entitled \u2018It\u2019s All about the Hormones,\u2019 students are instructed to watch a video containing animation called \u00a0\u2018Puberty and Transgender Youth.\u2019<\/p>

\u2018Whether you identify as male, female, gender queer or something else, you\u2019re perfectly normal, and there are lots of ways to manage puberty so that it can be a fun, exciting time rather than a scary or stressful one,\u2019 the video states.<\/p>

<\/div>\n

\u2018If you feel you want more time to explore how you feel about your gender before your body starts to change, it\u2019s important to talk with a parent, counselor, therapist or doctor about the feelings you have regarding your gender,\u2019 the video details.<\/p>\n

\u2018After some discussion and counseling, you may be referred to an endocrinologist. Endocrinologists specialize in hormones, and they\u2019re the most likely to prescribe puberty blockers for someone who wants them. Puberty blockers are medications that will stop your body from changing.\u2019<\/p>

One Republican lawmaker, State Senator Holly Schepisi, was not impressed with the lesson plans declaring them to be \u2018completely overboard with cringy detail for young kids.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018I truly think New Jersey has lost its damn mind,\u2019 she wrote.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n

\u2018I can appreciate the need for students to receive age-appropriate instruction, but this is beyond the pale. We knew when Gov. Murphy used the cover of the pandemic to push these new standards through that something was terribly wrong, and now we can clearly see why they needed to do this in secret,\u2019 Schepisi tweeted.<\/p>

\u2018The agenda has swung so far left in an attempt to sexualize our precious children that parents are fighting back. Based on the overwhelming outreach I have received from parents, Democrats should expect a reckoning this fall,\u2019 \u00a0she added.<\/p>\n

Democratic New Jersey Gov. Murphy told Fox News on Monday that while he believes parents should have a say in the education of their children, \u2018some are using this as an opportunity to score political points and to further divide us \u2013 us vs. them \u2013 and I say that on behalf of the LGBTQIA+ communities.\u2019<\/p>\n

He also pointed out that such standards on gender identity were voted on two years ago by the state\u2019s board of education.<\/p>\n

The governor said that he was open to hearing from people that believe the standards \u2018need to be adjusted or altered.\u2019<\/p>\n

In another example on the sample lesson plans aimed at fifth graders, an animated video raises the subject of puberty and sexual anatomy.<\/p>\n

The video, titled, \u2018Masturbation: Totally Normal,\u2019 tells children that pleasuring themselves \u2018a few times a day\u2019 is a \u2018physically safe way to express sexual feelings.\u2019<\/p>\n

The video, which is animated in a quirky cartoonish style, sees a boy taking off his pants and then getting underneath sheets before grabbing a tissue.<\/p>\n

A partner video aimed at girls also promotes self-gratification as \u2018a way to relieve stress\u2019 and depicts a girl using a hand-held mirror to examine herself.<\/p>\n

Students enrolled in public schools across New Jersey will be receiving such lessons \u00a0on sex education and gender identity from the second grade onwards beginning in September.<\/p>\n

Fifth graders are treated to another animated video called \u2018What is Love Anyway?\u2019 which tackles the subject of sexual orientations.<\/p>\n

\u2018While many people know their sexual orientation at a very young age, it is also common at this age to feel confused about your thoughts and feelings regarding who you find attractive. In fact, you may find yourself thinking about people of the same sex and of the opposite sex and be unsure,\u2019 the video details.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson on behalf of Westfield Public Schools said that the materials were a \u2018simple list of resources\u2019 rather than official state policy.<\/p>\n

\u2018During a presentation at the February 22 Board of Education meeting, we provided an update on the district\u2019s work to revise the Comprehensive Health and Physical Education curriculum. The presentation included a sample list of resources aligned to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards to be considered as school districts work on revisions to the health and PE curriculum,\u2019 Superintendent Dr. Raymond Gonz\u00e1lez said.<\/p>\n

\u2018We made it clear at the meeting and subsequent meetings that these are resources only \u2013 they are not state-mandated \u2013 and that the district is in the process of developing its revised curriculum to meet state standards,\u2019 superintendent Gonz\u00e1lez added.<\/p>\n
