Demari Samuel has won the Optimist Club of St. John\u2019s Oratorical contest.<\/div>\n

The sixteen-year-old St. Joseph\u2019s Academy student was one of six young people who took part in the contest.<\/div>\n

His competition came from his own school, along with the Clare Hall Secondary and the Antigua Girl\u2019s High School.<\/div>\n

The fifth former is expected to take part in a Caribbean District contest on April 30th<\/sup>\u00a0where he will compete with other students for scholarship money which can be used to assist with college financing.<\/p>

Another St. Joseph\u2019s Academy student, Uchenna Ohaegbulum took second place while Ti-ikha Edwards of the Clare Hall Secondary took third place honours.<\/p>\n

Club President Jodie Watley says that the club was thrilled to be able to host the contest this year after an unavoidable two-year break.<\/p>

She expresses appreciation to club member Nutilia Simon who chaired the planning committee along with an anonymous donor who made cash prizes to the winner and second place student possible.<\/p>

The top three also received a collection of books from The Best of Books.<\/p>\n

A special word of thanks goes out to Colin Francis, D. Giselle Isaac and Ursula Willock who gave up their Saturday morning to serve as judges.<\/p>

The students all spoke on the topic: \u201cStaying Optimistic in Challenging Times\u201d.<\/p>\n
