Smith said twice during the incident, according to Elam, &#8220;Keep my wife&#8217;s name out of your f***ing mouth!&#8221;<\/div>\n<div class=\"ad ad--epic ad--tablet\" data-ad-text=\"show\">\n<div data-ad-id=\"ad_out_vid_01\" data-ad-position=\"tablet\" data-ad-refresh=\"default\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ad ad--epic ad--desktop\" data-ad-text=\"show\">\n<div class=\"inStream_ad_out_vid_01\" data-ad-id=\"ad_out_vid_01\" data-ad-position=\"desktop\" data-ad-refresh=\"default\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\" data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_42B45A8D-0D8A-7988-8066-CE6DE7C9D769\">Rock responded: &#8220;Oh, wow.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_42B45A8D-0D8A-7988-8066-CE6DE7C9D769\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\" data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_3E314FE6-15E8-215D-19BA-CE6DE7CA046F\">For viewers at home, censors muted the verbal part of the exchange between Rock and Smith.<\/div>\n<div data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_3E314FE6-15E8-215D-19BA-CE6DE7CA046F\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\" data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_61336B0B-1D21-D9B3-367B-CE6DE7CB4D97\">The theater went silent and Rock said, &#8220;That was the greatest night in the history of television.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_61336B0B-1D21-D9B3-367B-CE6DE7CB4D97\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\" data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_98B14D78-5BA9-C73D-C974-CE6DE7CC2E5A\">Sean &#8220;Diddy&#8221; Combs took to the stage later and told Smith and Rock that they would settle things &#8220;like family&#8221; later.<\/div>\n<div data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_98B14D78-5BA9-C73D-C974-CE6DE7CC2E5A\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\" data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_157C0149-2909-8442-FC5E-CEA83FA60852\">Roughly 40 minutes later,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/03\/27\/entertainment\/best-actor-will-smith-speech\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0Smith returned to the stage<\/a>\u00a0to accept the Oscar for best actor and apologized to the Academy and his fellow nominees for the incident, but did not mention Rock by name.<\/div>\n<div data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_157C0149-2909-8442-FC5E-CEA83FA60852\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\" data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_081522C4-A074-FDEE-3066-CEA964F31FAC\">He tearfully accepted the award for his role as Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams, in the film &#8220;King Richard.&#8221; Smith said Williams &#8220;was a fierce defender of his family.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_081522C4-A074-FDEE-3066-CEA964F31FAC\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"zn-body__paragraph\" data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_17001285-AA54-1227-3DD0-CEA964F3B67B\">Smith said, &#8220;I know to do what we do, you gotta be able to take abuse and have people talk people about you. In this business, you gotta have people disrespecting you.
