(REUTERS) Venezuela\u2019s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Felix Plasencia, has said Caracas would be ready to sell oil to the United States again, while remaining \u201cloyal\u201d to Moscow.<\/p>

Plascenia told the Turkish Anadolu Agency on Saturday that it would not be a \u201cstrange relationship\u201d for Washington and Caracas to work together on oil, as Venezuela had \u201cbeen doing oil business with the Americans for a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

The minister argued that it would \u201cbe good for everyone\u201d if Venezuela\u2019s energy exports to the US get \u201cback on track,\u201d adding that Americans were welcome in the country as long as they \u201crespect the sovereignty\u201d of Venezuela and recognize President Nicolas Maduro as \u201cVenezuela\u2019s only and legitimate head of government.\u201d<\/p>

Plascenia said that he hopes that US sanctions against Venezuela that targeted its oil sector would be lifted.<\/p>

The minister stressed, however, that Venezuela would remain \u201cloyal allies of the Russian government,\u201d and said the country sees Russian President Vladimir Putin \u201cas a responsible head of government.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe respect him as a member of the international community. We believe he will do the best for his people,\u201d Plascenia concluded.<\/p>

The US broke all relations with Venezuela in 2019 and recognized pro-US opposition leader Juan Guaido as \u201cinterim president\u201d instead of Maduro.<\/p>\n

Senior US officials travelled to Venezuela last week to meet with Maduro\u2019s government amid Russia\u2019s ongoing offensive in Ukraine. The US government has sanctioned Russia\u2019s oil industry in response to the conflict, causing US gas prices to rise. There have been suggestions that Washington can turn to Venezuela as an alternative supplier of crude, though no deal has been announced as of yet.<\/p>
